Ambient guitar looping.

As much time as I’ve spent rebelling against it and trying to avoid it, the truth is that before any of that, I was a devoted practitioner of the form.

It's a fairly wide-ranging concept: some of this music is pretty enough to qualify as new age, and some of it is abrasive enough to be called noise. But to me, when you talk about “ambient guitar looping,” there’s a pretty specific area you’re generally dealing with. And at the time this music was recorded, it's an area I had been spending a lot of time in.

About half of the material here was previously available as RealAudio streams (...ahem) on the Echoplex Analysis Pages for many years. When I started looking into reviving that material, I found that I didn't have uncompressed audio files for some of the tracks. This led to excavating some 17-year-old DAT tapes, which in turn led to the discovery of a lot of material from the sessions I'd never published and/or had forgotten existed in the first place.

All of the material here is newly remastered as of December 2015, and a lot of it has never seen the light of day in any form before now.
